Staying Healthy Away From Home

2 Jul

This weekend my girlfriend and I are heading up to Maine. Destination: NATEVA Music and Camping Festival. You know when the suggested packing list includes – Love, Smiles, Hackie Sacks and Hula Hoops it’s going to be a different time.

Que the video: South Park – Hippy Infestation.

Luckily for me I’m not too hippie – phobic and I’m really looking forward to camping, sun and live music.

Needless to say we aren’t going to have the luxury of a fridge full of healthy food, or a nearby supermarket. Therefore we came up with a nice little cooler set up. Too often people settle for the treats of the road (Gas Station Food), crappy protein bars, or whatever is being sold at the venue. Worst case scenario they are getting fast food. Best case, overpriced restaurant chain grub.

Why not take a lesson from our hippie friends and pack some raw, wholesome real foods. News flash, crunchy granola folks…your stuff ain’t making the list.

– Plenty Of Fruit – Put in tupperware cut up into fruit salad. Grapes, Kiwi, Pineapple, Blueberries, Strawberries

– Raw Stuffed Peppers – Green Bell Peppers Stuffed with Tuna, Celery, Jalepeno’s and Pickles

Nuts Nuts Nuts – Almonds, Walnuts Galore!

– MSG Free, Low Sodium Beef Jerky – 2 days without some animal flesh? Not this guy!

Raw Veggies and Hummus – Broccoli, Carrots, Celery, Peppers, Red Pepper Hummus

Oskar Blues Brewery – Ten Fid’y Imperial Stout, Gubna Imperial IPA, sold in four packs of cans, score!

H2O – We are both bringing a camel back, and instead of ice we froze bottled water to keep the food cold and refill the packs during the day!

Metabolic Drive – 2 Scoops in some Tupperware for a little morning protein never hurt…

As you can see, we won’t have to waste money on crap food and we will be eating great the whole time we are gone!

What are you doing this weekend and what are your plans for damage control while you’re having fun away from home!?
